Get ready: Common Matters #7 in Manchester features Wolff Olins, Hyperfocus & Dan Forster
13 January 2026
What matters to the movers and shakers of the design industry?
Find out at our next event in Manchester on 11th February, with speakers from Wolff Olins and Hyperfocus, plus award-winning lettering artist Dan Forster.
Common Matters #7
Diversity of thought is essential to every creative mind. Which is why we don’t curate talks around a set topic, but instead ask the people we admire a simple question… “What matters to you?”
The purpose of Common Matters is simple; to unite the creative community, through the matters that matter to us all. Open minds and world-class talks, this time back in our flagship city of Manchester.
The Speakers & Talks
Emma Barratt, Global Executive Creative Director at Wolff Olins, will deliver her talk Are you any good? – shaping perception in a radically shallow world.
Emma is from Salford, so is excited to bring her story back to her ends, encouraging us to take a good look in the mirror on our own strengths and standards.
–
Paul Watmough-Halim & Jan Stein, Co-Founders of Hyperfocus, will be joining us all the way from Hamburg with their talk titled Design is Messy.
What do Hyperfocus do? They build the worlds most courageous brands that create impact and move you with soul.
They bring this serious value to the design world, and contribute massively to creative culture too. Having spoken at some amazing events (hello, D&AD, OFFF and Art Directors Club) they also host their own podcast, and keep us tuned into what’s good with The Brand Review.
–
Industry legend and award-winning Lettering Artist Dan Forster will take the stage to enrich our brains with his stunning work and inspiration.
His talk? Shaping Letters. Type as a tool for expression. How it can be shaped, moulded and harnessed to elevate communication and tell brand stories.
Can’t make the Manchester date?
Don’t worry – there’s more to come, and you can find some previous talks on our YouTube, including Harriet Richardson, Too Gallus and Studio Drama.
